Saturday morning on 4/23/16, EmergencyKitsAndSupply.com was fortunate enough to be one of the vendors at Lake Sherwood’s Safety Day Event. This beautiful community is nestled in the mountains, and is no stranger to brush fires. The residents of Sherwood took the time to hear from Ventura County Fire, CERT, and Ventura County Auxiliary Communications Service. Some of the many helpful tips, that could be useful to the Lake Sherwood Community as well as surrounding communities were to prepare your home with an earthquake plan as well as being sure to have enough emergency foodwater and first aid supplies on hand.

Firemen also made everyone aware of Ready, Set, Go! Which is also on vcfd.org. It includes information on being prepared for flood and fire. This site is so full of useful information. It is a definite resource for our area. Search your own fire department’s website to find information in your particular area.

One of the best ways to become prepared for an emergency is to take classes from CERT, (the Community Emergency Response Team). These classes were developed through FEMA and provide life saving skills such as basic disaster response information, light search and rescue, team organization, fire safety and basic emergency medical training. I wish that it was a manditory class for all California residents. I plan on doing a refresher course each year. The initial class takes around 8 weeks, if you plan on receiving your certification. These classes were developed through FEMA and provide life saving skills.

Encourage your HOA to organize an event for your community. Information and learning as a community is power.
